What is Oat Drink?
Oatly Oat Drink is an oat-based drink challenger made for people who want to replace dairy from a cow in their everyday life. Since the last millennia, Oatly has been committed to finding new ways to make it easy for people to eat better and live healthier lives without recklessly taxing the planet’s resources. What started with the first oat drink has become specialty coffee products, replacements for cooking creams, whipped cream, spreads, and even soft serve. Our oat base is just oats and water. But it’s what we do with those oats and that water that makes Oatly so special. In most oat drinks, we add the vitamins and minerals, and source of fat you might need when shifting from an animal-based diet to a vegan or more plant-based one.

Why use Creamy Oats instead of Cream from a cow?
Creamy Oats works just like so called regular cream, but it is rich in unsaturated fat. Cream from cows has high levels of saturated fat. Replacing saturated fat in your diet with unsaturated fat helps maintain normal blood cholesterol levels, in combination with a varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.
Plus, in Sweden, Creamy Oats has 61% lower climate impact than comparable cow’s cream for cooking, according to an LCA made by Blonk Consultants, 2024. See the full source and read more about it here.

We fortify most of our products with the minerals and vitamins you might need when you stop consuming dairy from cows.
What's your packaging made from? Is it recyclable? Compostable?
Our flat-topped oat drink packages are made of paperboard, some plastic, and a small amount of aluminium. The cap is made with biobased plastic. The gable top Chilled Oat Drink packages are made with paperboard and some plastic (biobased). Technically, most of our packaging is recyclable, but it depends on the sorting, collection, and recycling infrastructure in place in the country/region you're in. They are not compostable.
How do you calculate the CO2e numbers on your products?
We gather data on greenhouse gas emissions from grower to grocer and put it through a platform called CarbonCloud that uses 20 years of research in the food-system field to crunch the numbers and get the final carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) number. When the counting and analyzing are done, an impartial verifier professional double-checks the calculations. Basically, our numbers are scrutinized by people who really know what they’re doing. Read all about it here.
Are your products vegan?

What's the difference between your oat drink varieties? (i.e., full fat, low fat, original, barista)
The difference is mainly the fat content. To make it easy for people to swap one for one from cow's milk, the percentage of fat matches the one of full fat, low fat, and regular dairy, but we use primarily unsaturated fat from rapeseed oil instead of animal-based fat.

The sugar in our unflavored oat drinks comes from the oat. When making the oat base used for all our products, we add enzymes that break the oat starch down into smaller components, like maltose (aka malt sugar), which sweetens our products. Read more.
What about allergens such as gluten, soy and nuts?
Let’s start with the easiest one: All our products are totally free of soy.
When it comes to gluten, it depends on where you live. In the US and Canada, our products are made from certified gluten-free oats and (consequently) labelled as gluten-free. In Europe and Asia, however, our products can contain a small amount of gluten. So, although it may not be much gluten at all - they cannot, of course, be classified as completely gluten-free. If you’re ever unsure if Oatly is gluten-free or not in your country, check the labeling on the package.
We don’t use nuts as an ingredient in any of our own factories where we make our oat drinks. In the production facility where our ice-creams (US) are produced there are some nuts, and we have strict procedures in place with our suppliers to minimize the risk of our products being contaminated. In other words, our products are nut-free.
