Oatly Barista no longer works with automatic espresso mashine

Hi
I've used Oatly Barista Edition in my coffee for a long time, and 8 months ago I bought an automatic espresso mashine, where I of course also use oatly. I usually buy them in bulk when on sale, and recently bought a bunch more. With this new batch my coffee mashine has been having issues taking the milk in, and therefore is unable to produce any milk foam. I've tried using cow-milk and the mashine is having no issues with that. I even had a technician replace some parts, but it has not helped. There seems to be nothing wrong with the mashine, but I've also used Oatly before with no issues, so the only explanation I can come up with, is that something has changed in the ingredients or something is wrong with this batch I recently bought.

I read some of the post in here, and it seems many people are having issues with oatly going bad, and I was wondering whether this issue could be related to that, since the mashine needs the milk to be consistent in texture, and if the milk is bad, it usually separates.

I'm planning on testing with a different brand of oat milk, just to see if the issue really is Oatly. It's just weird that there was no issues before, and now that I bought 30 liters, it's having issues, how ironic.

Is anyone else experiencing the same thing?

ETA: I have now tested several different oatmilks from different brands, both regular, organic and "barista" versions, and none of them are having any issues going through the machine.

These ones also have the new lids and are still working fine for several days after being opened.

Hey there,

Please excuse the lateness in our response, and thank you for taking the time to bring this issue to our attention although regrettable that you've had this experience.

In order to best help you, are you able to clarify if you've been using our conventional Barista Edition, or you're referring to our Barista Organic?

Warmest regards,

@Rhulz Hi

I'm using the conventional oatly barista, I have not tried the organic version yet, but I'm planning on giving that one a go.

I have however tested my machine with other brands of oatmilk, both regular, organic and "barista" versions, and all of them go through the mashine easily. There is of course a difference in the texture of the milk foam, but at least they all come trough, whereas oatly barista now just "gets stuck".

Just jumping onto this message as I have experienced lack of frothing lately in my milk frother too. I have been using Oatly Barista edition for years, never had any issues up until recently when I thought my milk frother had gived up as the milk wasn't getting thick and frothy anymore. So I opened a new pack of Barista Oatly and it worked again. Looks like Oatly Barista edition goes bad very quickly say after 3 days of it being open. I normally use one carton in 5 days, sometimes I push it out to 7 days but never ever had an issue with the frothing consistent even though it was 2 days after the recommended expiry date. Just wondering if ingredients have changed at all? Or because now made in Singapore? mmmmmm? Thank you.

Did they change where the oats are sourced from maybe?

If they changed from production in Sweden (it was there before, right?) to now being in Singapore, that could very well make a difference, since I'm guessing they don't ship all the ingredients to Singapore.

Hey Annelies,

Thanks for writing to us!

We appreciate when our consumers reach out to tell us that we haven't been able to meet the oat'standing expectations that we expect from our product, and sorry to hear that our Barista Oat Drink hasn't been performing as it should. In a froth test carried out by baristas, we noted that great results were obtained with temperatures lower than 58°C, and even better under 55°C. What temperature are you frothing it in?

Also, are you able to file a complaint on our website with all the details so that our quality team can look closer to the batch?

Thanks!
Sophia

 Hey @katjaden1ste,

Thanks for the clarification, and with that in mind, I would ask that you contact us via our complaints form using the provided link; here. By the sounds of it, it seems that you might have a faulty product, and because of that I'd like to have this checked out by our Quality team and of course have this sorted out.

I absolutely LOVE Oatly and do a little happy dance whenever I find cafes serving it. I have been using the Oatly Barista milk for my morning cappuccino for the past couple of years, and it has frothed well and always tastes wonderful. Recently, I switched to the organic version of the Oatly Barista milk, and have been struggling to get the milk to froth and foam.

When I try to froth the organic Oatly Barista milk with my machine, my machine makes a wacky, unbearable, high-pitched noise and the milk fails to froth. At first when trying to froth the milk, I thought my machine had broken. I have since tested my machine with regular milk as well as an older Oatly Barista (non-Bio) milk, and have not had the same issues.

We buy Oatly in bulk. I have tested and finished 2 liters of the organic Oatly Barista milk version and had the same issues with both containers. This is naturally disappointing and frustrating. I am wondering if the recipe for the organic Oatly has changed drastically? Do you have suggestions of how to froth the organic version?  I still have approx. 20-30 more 1 liter boxes of this organic Oatly in our basement...

Does anyone know if Oatly still selling the the non-organic Oatly Barista milk (as our super market is no longer selling it)? I find this a shame, as I always prefer to buy organic...

I have submitted a complaint to Oatly, but am also happy for comments here.

I too am finding that Oatly barista edition goes off in the fridge much more quickly than before. I do not think it tastes quite the same.
